Are you ready for California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?

Are you ready for California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?

If your eCommerce store has customers from California, then please check if you need to comply with the new California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) which goes into effect on January 1, 2020.

We have seen a similar act passed in the European Union a couple of years ago (since then you probably have seen many websites with a ‘popup’ that asks your permission to use ‘cookies’). Now a similar law is being passed in California.

Before you begin to get worried… check if this law applies to your company.

This law applies to you if your company:

  • Has gross annual revenues in excess of $25 million;
  • Buys, receives, or sells the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households, or devices;
  • Derives 50% or more of annual revenues from selling consumers’ personal information.

So, if you’re in the “small business” category with under $25 million of annual revenue with less than 50k customers, then you don’t need to do anything. Of course, don’t quote me on this because I’m a marketer and not a lawyer 🙂

You can read more about it on the CCPA page here.
